What is the funding request process?
Answer:

Beginning September 2011, the Qualcomm Foundation will adhere to a new schedule for funding requests. Proposals are reviewed by the Qualcomm Foundation Board of Directors every other month based upon our grantmaking focus areas.

When invited, organizations can submit our Proposal Form and should adhere to the proposal deadlines by grantmaking focus area (see Timeline). Organizations will be notified by mail with a funding decision. Organizations are limited to one proposal per calendar year.

How do I know which giving area my organization falls within?
Answer:

Please email philanthropy@qualcomm.com if your organization is unclear about which grantmaking focus area applies.

What is an appropriate request amount?
Answer:

There is no standard amount that should be requested. The amount should be based on the program's budget, existing organizational resources, and the forecast for additional funding. We may decide to fund some or all of a program's expenses.

What are important proposal elements?
Answer:
  • Qualcomm Incorporated employee involvement
  • Financially sound organization/program
  • Sustainability
  • Strong leadership
What does Qualcomm or the Qualcomm Foundation not typically fund?
Answer:
  • Capital campaigns
  • Fundraising events
  • Salaries/staff
  • Professional development
  • Primary and secondary schools
What if I cannot find certain documents required for submission?
Answer:

Although we strongly urge that all applications are submitted with the required documentation, we will accept proposals that do not include every required attachment. We will contact your organization if additional information is required to review the request.

How should I submit my proposal?
Answer:

If you are invited to submit a proposal after filling out the Letter of Inquiry Form, we will email you the Proposal Form. Only one copy of the proposal is needed when submitted.

Will attachments submitted be returned to our organization?
Answer:

No. All materials submitted (including videos, DVDs, CD's and brochures) will not be returned to your organization.

How often can our organization reapply for funding?
Answer:
  • Organizations that are not invited to submit a proposal may resubmit a letter of inquiry twelve months after the initial letter of inquiry was submitted.
  • Organizations that were invited to submit a proposal, but who did not receive funds, may resubmit a letter of inquiry twelve months after receiving a funding decision.
Will someone contact me when the application is received?
Answer:

No. We will notify you via mail of the committee's decision within three weeks of the meeting.
